Understanding the effect of air pollution on the climate as well as on human health is of great importance. In order to increase this understanding, fast and real-time measurements of concentrations of chemical components in ambient air is a necessity.
Air pollution is not only caused by gaseous components but also by aerosols or particulate matter (PM). These fine particles penetrate in the lungs and are detrimental for human health. Health risk of PM is a hot issue worldwide, but it is still not known which components cause the effects. Hence there is a need for more specific and long term data.
Applikon presents two automated systems in the area of air monitoring:
MARGA is a monitoring system with which the concentrations not only of PM, but also of acidifying gasses can be measured continuously. Both the PM and the gasses are directly dissolved into water and subsequently analysed by using Ion Chromatography.
PILS is a compact sampling unit for aerosols. PILS can be used as preconditioning unit for for example Ion Chromatogrpahy in several analytical applications in ambient environment.
